Christian Steffens has been working at innotec as a sales representative for the southern region since 2019 - with a brief interruption. In this interview, he shares a few anecdotes from his day-to-day work and talks about his strengths with a twinkle in his eye.

How did you come to innotec and what did you do before?

I previously worked in technical sales - including for strapping machines, thermal imaging cameras and most recently in the medium-voltage busbar sector. When I discovered innotec's job advertisement for Sales Manager South-East, it immediately sparked my interest and I was also attracted by the company's sustainable services. I also saw the challenges and opportunities that the role of Area Manager entails.

What tasks are part of your daily work?

My focus is on sales activities in the entire southern region. This includes everything from acquisition - for example at specialist conferences - to looking after existing customers and classic sales practice. Essentially, this means maintaining customer contacts, arranging and attending appointments, preparing quotations and conducting contract negotiations. I also like to think outside the box and get involved in areas such as marketing or operational tasks.

What does a normal working day look like for you?

After getting up, I brush my teeth, have a coffee and smoke "another" cigarette. Then I either sit down at my laptop in my home office or get in the car to drive to appointments.

Life writes the best stories: What's the most unusual, nicest or funniest thing you've ever experienced at work?

I particularly remember the evening events at the "WohWi im Dialog" conference in Reit im Winkl. In 2023, for example, the cabaret artist Django Asül performed his stage program at the Stallenalm, while in 2024 the return journey from there was particularly adventurous. The bus got stuck in a hairpin bend and was unable to move forwards or backwards. This led to a night-time walk downhill, during which one participant fell. In the end, we needed an ambulance and a cab to get back to Reit im Winkl.

Another curious story was the message from a property manager who had just pulled a scooter out of a 1100-liter residual waste container. You don't forget moments like that so quickly!

Why do you like working at innotec?

I appreciate the sustainable services we offer for the residential environment, as well as the good working atmosphere and the cross-functional cohesion among colleagues. Flat hierarchies and the future-oriented focus of the company - keyword digitalization and innovation - also make innotec an employer where I feel comfortable and valued.

We innotecies are all PIONEERS OF THE FUTURE together. What does that mean for you and your work?

Two English sayings immediately spring to mind:

  1. "Never change a running system but if the theory doesn't fit to the practice the theory is not good enough for the practice."
  2. "Love it, leave it or change it."

In other words: you don't have to reinvent the wheel, but every now and then a change of tires is in order. For me, that means constantly working on myself and developing myself further.

What are you particularly good at professionally?

I personally enjoy overcoming challenges. I work closely with my team to do this. I first identify a problem, analyze it, develop initial solutions, discuss them with my colleagues and ultimately find the best solution, which is then implemented.

What are you particularly good at in your private life?

DJing music and kissing.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Patient, easy-going, reliable

What are your hobbies?

I like cooking, I'm a DJ, I love music and good parties, I play poker, I enjoy games and movie nights and I like soccer.

What would you take with you to a desert island?

My DJ equipment and system, a power generator and enough fuel.
